September-May 2008-2009

SEPTEMBER:
3rd at 10:00 - Playgroup at Mary's house 605 Ira II (One block over from Haugen between 6th and 8th; gray house with a red roof and a baby swing on the front porch)
10th at 10:00 - Babybookworms in the library conference room. Theme: bodies
17th at 10:00 - Playdough at the Bible Church nursery (The Bible Church is at 112 Skylar Way - up Magill's hill to the right. The nursery is the smaller separate building to the right of the church) Please bring any playdough type utensils you'd like to share with the group. If you're willing to make/bring some playdough please let Nikki know by calling her at 3541.
Moms with playdough-eaters: come anyway to play with the nursery toys and just hang out! Perhaps some of you could also bring a small tub and some crunchy cereal for the little guys to play safely with, but still get their hands moving. Rice crispies work great. Let Nikki know if you'd like to bring something like this and we'll post it on the website.
24th at 10:00 - Sandy beach bubble activity. Let's meet at Sandy Beach and have some bubble fun (Rain or shine - we can go under the shelter if it's really wet). Bring any bubble mixtures, wands, blowers, etc. that would be fun to share.

The nursery is the smaller separate building to the right of the church). Contact paper will be provided. Bring any dried leaves or other items that would stick flat onto a collage. Last year the best leaves were the ones that were pressed and flat (doing this in a telephone book works great).
This was a very fun activity we're bringing back from last year and it actually turns out a beautiful end product. But we need LOTS OF LEAVES! So please head outside with your little ones in the next few weeks and start collecting leaves and drying/pressing them!

Instructions for Flubber (Gak) from Sheri:
I found this at http://www.omsi.edu
In a small container, combine:
1-1/3 cup very warm water and 2 tsp. Borax
Stir until Borax is completely dissolved.
Set aside.
In a large container, combine:
1-1/2 cup very warm water, 2 cups Elmer's White Glue, Liquid water color (or food coloring), and glitter (optional).
Mix thoroughly.
Pour contents of the small container into the large container.
Mix well using your hands.
Lift and turn the mixture until it's fully combined.
Notes: If it sticks on hair, clothes or carpet use white vinegar to clean. Yields 6 children. Will last up to 2 weeks if stored in airtight container.
Instructions for Colored Rice from Sheri:
I found this at http://www.dltk-holidays.com
You can do this in a large ziplock bag, or in a container with a lid.
Add a healthy amount of food coloring to 2 tsp of rubbing alcohol.
Pour in about 3 cups of rice.
Shake well.
Pour onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper or tin foil.
Let dry about 1/2 a day (I did it overnight).
Notes: Be careful as it is food coloring and it doesn't come out of clothes well.
