Playgroup is on an informal summer schedule. Please check our facebook site for last minute changes and get-togethers.
Mondays - 10:00 Let's meet at Sandy Beach and let the kids play. Bring sand toys and weather appropriate clothes!
Wednesdays: 10:00 - 11:00 Library time. Every Wed. this summer the library is having a booktime aimed at preschoolers/babies followed by an open library time. A great time to take the little ones to the library and not have to worry about them disrupting others.
Playgroup is now on Facebook
Playgroup now has a group site on facebook. Just search "Petersburg Playgroup". We will continue to post the main schedule on this website but will be posting all pictures, last minute changes, and extra events on facebook. Thanks
Summer Playgroup 2009
For the summer, playgroup will continue to have baby bookworms at the library on the 2nd Wed. of each month.
The other weeks we will be having an open gym/playground time. If the weather cooperates we would love to meet outside at Sandy Beach or another playground each week. If it is really rainy our back-up plan will be the community gym where the kids can run around and get some energy out!
If anyone would like to plan a field trip or coordinate a playgroup event feel free to do so! You can let Mary or Jessica know and we will update the website and send out reminder emails.
Open gym will be from 10:00 - 12:00 and regular gym fees will apply ($7 per family). If the weather is nice and we are able to be outside we will let the front desk at the gym know where we went. We will also try and update the website and send a reminder email.

21st at 10:00am: Bible Church - Craft Theme: Individual Pumpkin Pies
For everyone who wasn't able to make it...here's the recipe we used.
This makes a lot of pie mix, so invite several little friends over and dig in!
1 pkg vanilla pudding mix (big or small - I think we used the big)
1 can pumpkin puree (big or small - just depends how much you want to make! We used the big, "Easy" kind with the spices already in it)
1 1/2 c. milk
spices (if your puree doesn't have it already)
mini pie crusts
whipping cream
Mix the milk and pudding together until smooth. Add the pumpkin and mix well. Scoop into individual pie tins and either refrigerate or eat immediately! It's always better topped with whipped cream!

Ultimate Bubble Recipe
2 c Dawn dishwashing detergent
¾ c white Karo corn syrup
6 c water
Combine all ingredients in a container with a tight fitting lid and shake well. Let settle for at least 4 hours before using. Store in refrigerator to preserve mix, but bring to room temp before using. Avoid stirring the mix once made, this causes foam which interferes with the bubbles. This is non-toxic, but shouldn’t be eaten and it should be kept out of little eyes!

2 c water
1 c Dawn dishwashing detergent
1/4 c glycerin (opt.)
1 tsp sugar
Mix and use!

2nd at 10:00 - Playgroup at Louise's house 1100A Valkyrie St. (Coast Guard housing upper side just down from the playground) If the weather is nice we can also spend some time at the playground. Come visit and catch up from our busy summers!
9th at 10:00 Baby Bookworms at the library. Theme: favorites Mary and Becky will be sharing a few of their favorite books, rhymes and songs. If anyone else has a favorite bring it along.
16th at 10:00 Playgroup at new playground at 5th and Ira II and/or Mary's house at 605 Ira II. Just drive up Ira II St. (parallel to Haugen) and it is where 5th street would go through. It's a fun playground but geared a bit more toward older kids (slides, climbing and no swings) There is a privacy fence but it is not completely secure. We can also use Mary's house so if it is raining or you have babies and would rather hang out at a house while the "older" kids play at the playground with a few of the moms that should work fine.
23rd at 9am - swimming in the warm pool. NOTE THE EARLIER TIME! Regular pool fees apply. Hope to see you there!
30th at 9am - swimming in the warm pool. NOTE THE EARLIER TIME! Regular pool fees apply.
Since we have so few swim times between now and December, the pool is allowing us to come twice this month. Hope to see you there!

7th at 10:00 - Rachel Kandoll's house on Rose Lane (off of Papke's road)
Directions: Turn on Papke's Road (about 9 miles out, past Falls Creek, on the right, well marked road). Then take the first road to your left (Rose Lane). You will pass 2 houses on your right and then the road forks and you want to stay right. They are the 1st house (on your left). You will see the in-progress tyveck garage right in front of the house. As the garage is still being worked on it would be easiest to keep driving past the garage and then pull in to the driveway in front of the house. If you have any questions call Rachel at 2665.
It's a drive but always fun to explore a new house! Hope to see you there.
14th at 10am - Bookworms at the library
NOTE: The library is trying something new for us. After baby bookworms the library will be open for a special toddler/baby friendly time (10:30 - 11:30) where the library will be staffed so the moms can check out books and the kids can read books, play with the puppets, magnets, etc. We can also continue to use the council chamber room so some moms can read to small groups while other moms are checking out books. Should be a great time to take advantage of our wonderful library!
21st at 9:00 - Swimming! NOTE THE EARLIER TIME! We use the warm pool. Regular swim fees apply. Hope to see you there.
28th - Halloween costume parade at Mt. View Manor. This is a favorite from past years. Dress up your little ones a few days early and let's meet at the Mt. View Manor Assisted Living Dining Room at 10:00 Drive to the left end of the building(new wing) and go in the automatic doors and the dining hall is straight ahead. We will then do a "parade" through the building and end up upstairs in the lounge (far end looking out over Hammer and Wikan) where we will have snack. If you have old enough kids to care you might let them know that this is a costume parade and not trick or treating. This is a big hit with the Manor residents!

11th at 10am - Individual pumpkin pies at the Bible Church Nursery. Dress to get messy!
Here's the recipe we're going to use:
1 pkg vanilla pudding mix (big or small)
1 can pumpkin puree (big or small - just depends how much you want to make! "Easy" kind with the spices already in it works great)
1 1/2 c. milk
spices (if your puree doesn't have it already)
mini pie crusts
whipping cream
Mix the milk and pudding together until smooth. Add the pumpkin and mix well. Scoop into individual pie tins and either refrigerate or eat immediately! It's always better topped with whipped cream!
